JEDDAH, 19 June — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd yesterday expressed the hope that world powers would respond favorably to the recent calls by Saudi Arabia to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just and comprehensive Middle East peace settlement.

“We hope the world countries will respond to the call made by Crown Prince Abdullah on behalf of the Kingdom to resume efforts to end the Israeli occupation within the framework of a just and comprehensive settlement,” the king told the weekly Cabinet meeting.

He reiterated that any Middle East settlement must ensure peace and security for all parties in the region and restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinians. The king was referring to the statements made by the crown prince during his recent four-nation tour that took him to Syria, Germany, Sweden and Morocco. He underscored the strong relations between Saudi Arabia and the four countries visited by the crown prince and said the Kingdom would strengthen its cooperation with them, especially in economic fields.

The Cabinet meeting decided to impose the punishment mentioned in Article 81 of the Civil Status Law on Saudi citizens mortgaging their IDs or civil status cards or family status cards or personal passports within or outside the Kingdom or leaving those documents with others to use them illegally. The Cabinet authorized the finance minister or his deputy to sign an agreement with Ethiopia for mutual exemption of tax on air transportation between the two countries.
