DAMMAM, 19 June — A round-trip ticket to Manila and lots of door prizes are up for grabs as the Filipino community in the Eastern Region officially celebrates the 103rd anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Sponsored by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the event to be held on Friday features sports exhibitions, academic competitions, computer seminar and free medical check-up.
The one-day affair is being organized in cooperation with the All Filipino Community and Sports Commission (AFCSCOM) and the Philippine Embassy’s Accredited Community Partners (ACPs) in the region.
Roi Alojado, the appointed program director of the affair, said there will be a Quiz Bee for elementary and high school students, an orientation seminar on Internet usage, and basketball and volleyball exhibition matches in the morning.
Free medical consultation will also be extended the whole day.
In the afternoon, folk dance numbers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be performed by the students from Philcosa, Philippine School in Dammam, and International Philippine School in Al-Khobar, respectively.
Musical numbers will also be rendered by the Filipino Pop Music Club, Filpop Kids, and the Awit-Sayaw Cultural Group.
To top it all is a surprise special performance of Norman Mitchell, a popular comedian from Manila.
To grace the occasion is Ambassador Rafael Seguis. Also attending the event are Supervising Labor Attaché Arturo Sodusta, EP Labor Attaché Jainal Rasul, Jr., Supervising Welfare Officer Sotero Tornea, Jr., and Khalid Al-Shammerei, president of the Al-Nahda Sports Club. Alojado said that the admission is free.
