JEDDAH, 27 January — Security officers found a 35-year-old Pakistani, who was missing for more than 72 hours, in the Empty Quarter after a long search, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. The man was sitting in his car not knowing what to do after his car went out of fuel when he missed his way in the desert.

The paper said police in Saleel mounted the search after receiving information from the man's brother. The Pakistani could survive 72 hours in the desert thanks to the cold weather, the paper said.

Governor of Saleel Shahir ibn Muhammad Al-Hamel urged the persons intending to visit the Empty Quarter to inform their kith and kin before heading to the area. He also advised them to store enough food, water and fuel as well as the safety precautions necessary for the desert trip.

 

Suicide attempt: In Makkah, meanwhile, an Indonesian housemaid tried to commit suicide inside the toilet of a house where she was living following a family dispute, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The female head of the family in Al-Zahir District moved quickly to save the maid's life by calling the Red Crescent Society.

According to the Arabic daily, the patrol police in the city have launched a probe into the incident. They are investigating the reasons that forced the maid to attempt suicide.
