JEDDAH, 27 January — The Women's Welfare Society in Jeddah has started a new training program for senior women in Jeddah in association with Special Arts, an organization for developing the handicapped skills.
The program aims to help senior women develop a craft to help them support themselves financially as well as finding useful ways to fill their spare time.
The plan started at two old-age homes (Al-Rehab and Abu Dawood) which are under the supervision of the Women's Welfare Society. The training program is run by volunteers who will teach the women how to produce art works. Special Arts will provide all the material needed for the workshops.
Meanwhile, the society began receiving applications for a three-month training course for psychology and sociology graduates to develop practical skills in social service.
Mona Al-Fadli, the director of the society, said, "These courses will provide new graduates with necessary experience. It will help them to apply what they have studied practically which is a crucial demand for many jobs. At the end of the course, each graduate will receive a certificate from our organization."
The courses will be held at the organization's headquarters behind the television tower in south Jeddah.
