JEDDAH, 31 January — A 110-year-old Saudi man was recently given a clean bill of health in preparation for a third wedding. Sources close to him said "his heart was fluttering for a Syrian woman who will revive memories of his younger days."
Dr. Yahya Ibrahim of Suleiman Faqeeh Hospital in Jeddah said medical tests proved that the man was enjoying excellent health despite a difficult life as a farmer.
Abdullah Al-Maeedh Al-Qahtani, from the Obeida tribe in the Asir region, was asked to what he attributed his good health and long life.
He replied, "Diet." It consists of nutritious basic foods and the speciality of his region, Asseda. Brown wheat bread baked at home, honey, milk and date-based foods were his staple diet and he thought them major contributors to his phenomenal good health.
His son observed that his father's state of mind and generous nature were a significant factor. He found satisfaction in whatever he did and was never happier than when serving others. "He found happiness in the happiness of others," his son said.
Now, Abdullah intends to marry a woman within 50 years of his age "who will feel comfortable with me," he says.
She will join the family that already comprises 70 children and grandchildren, the oldest son being 60 years of age.
