JEDDAH, 3 February — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed has urged businessmen to establish projects that create jobs for women, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday quoting Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Haza, secretary of the National Project for Training and Employment in the Makkah region.
"There are a large number of areas where businessmen can invest to create jobs for Saudi women. They include tailoring, weaving, embroidery work and ready-made dresses," he said, adding that the initiative of businessmen in the area would help employ a large number of Saudi women.
Al-Haza also called upon businessmen to establish institutes and centers to train Saudi women to take up various jobs. "There are other employment areas which are now occupied by foreign manpower," he pointed out. He urged Saudization of jobs at all private institutes.
Kaaba washing: The Makkah governor will lead the ceremonial washing of the Holy Kaaba on Feb. 10, Okaz newspaper reported yesterday. It said the function would be attended by a number of ministers and ambassadors from Islamic countries. Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheiby, senior keeper of the Holy Kaaba, said the cleaning using Zamzam mixed with rose water will cover the holy structure's floor and four inside walls.
Meanwhile, Prince Abdul Majeed will open an exhibition of old photographs of Saudi Arabia at Ummul Qura University on the sidelines of a scientific meet on Haj research. This was announced here yesterday by Dr. Osama Al-Bar, head of King Fahd Haj Research Institute. Al-Bar said the photographs were taken more than 100 years ago between 1298H and 1320H. "There are 15 rare shots of Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites and of Jeddah and Yanbu," he told the Saudi Press Agency. He said the show would visit Madinah and the other Saudi cities as well.
