RIYADH, 13 February — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived here last night at the head of a high-ranking delegation comprising senior officials and a huge contingent of businessmen. During his stay, the prime minister will hold wide-ranging talks with Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, and senior Saudi officials.
Hungarian diplomats said Orban's talks with Saudi officials would cover bilateral, regional and international issues. The high-level talks will review trade and investment relations. The prime minister will also attend a symposium on investment prospects in the two countries.
Hungarian Ambassador Tamas Varga said the two countries had greater scope to forge closer cooperation in commercial sector especially in terms of setting up joint industrial projects. Although an agricultural country situated in eastern Europe, industry has come to account for more than half of its total economy. Hungary exports engineering products, machine tools, motor vehicles, electrical and electronic goods.
Hungary, which established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom in 1996, is seeking closer ties in trade and investment. Varga identified banking and finance as an area where the two countries can work together.
