JEDDAH, 26 June — The Council of Ministers yesterday awarded the Saudi Ceramics Company concession to exploit kaolin and limestone deposits in Khashm Radi near Alkharj in the Riyadh region. The license covers a two sq km area.

The weekly Cabinet meeting, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, also advised the ministries of interior, and labor and social affairs to conduct a study on the growing phenomenon of begging in the Kingdom and to come out with a viable solution.

Addressing the meeting, King Fahd reiterated Riyadh’s commitment to the Arab and Islamic Ummah. “We will continue to use our international stature to mobilize support for Arab and Islamic causes and maintain global peace and stability,” he said.

The Saudi leader underscored the Kingdom’s strong relations with Yemen and expressed satisfaction over the outcome of last week’s Saudi-Yemeni Coordination Council meeting. Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, chaired the Saudi side at the meeting in Sanaa.

King Fahd said the strong relations between the two neighbors would contribute to strengthening security and stability in the region.

The Cabinet meeting authorized the interior minister to hold talks with the United Nations Development Program to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Civil Defense and the UNDP. The meeting approved an agreement signed with Argentina last year for cooperation in technical, technological and scientific areas. It authorized the foreign minister to sign an agreement with Bahrain for diplomatic  cooperation.

The meeting authorized Communications Minister Dr. Nasir Al-Salloum to conclude an agreement for cooperation in marine transportation with South Africa.

“The Cabinet also decided to review the objectives of social service and social development centers to set out a clear strategy for them,” Information Minister Dr. Fuad Al-Farsi said after the Cabinet session.
