RIYADH, 1 July — Dr. Turki ibn Muhammad ibn Saud Al-Kabir, assistant undersecretary at the Foreign Ministry for political affairs, yesterday denied reports about the killing of an Iraqi soldier by Saudi border guards last week. “It’s an old story and we have announced it before,” he told Arab News.

Prince Turki said he was suspicious of Iraqi intrusions into Saudi territories, which saw the involvement of its army officers in such incidents. “Iraq must respect international agreements and should not allow the repetition of such intrusions,” the prince added.

He said Saudi Arabia has already presented memorandums to the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Conference, protesting the Iraqi intrusions into its territory. He confirmed that a border skirmish between Iraqi forces and Saudi border guards had taken place three weeks ago. An Iraqi soldier later died of injuries sustained during the shootout.
