JEDDAH, 15 July — Ghassan Al-Najih, whose paranoid condition forced a Gulf Air plane to make an emergency landing at the Hail airport on Friday, returned home yesterday.
The 36-year-old Syrian, who was traveling by air for the first time, panicked after the plane took off from Abu Dhabi en route Damascus. This prompted the cabin crew to suspect that he was suffering from a serious heart condition.
According to the doctors at King King Khaled Hospital in Hail, the sudden drop in level of blood sugar caused Al-Najih’s illness.
“I suddenly remembered reports about air crashes and got panicky. I feared I would not see my kids again. I couldn’t talk then because my tongue won’t move. People thought I had a heart attack,” Al-Najih said. (Badr Almotawa)
