JEDDAH, 15 July — Car drivers and motorbike riders treated a large number of spectators to breathtaking stunts at the Ministry of Education Stadium off Madinah Road on Friday night, which was hosted by Saudi Arabian Lubricating Oil Co. (Petrolube).
Each act drew rapturous cheers from the audience whose eagerness to participate in some of the stunts was in evidence.
Senior company executives said the venue, where the stunts had been going on as part of the Jeddah 22 summer festival, was deliberately chosen to end their 11-week promotion for Petromin Ultra 7.
Cars, motorbikes, beach buggies and monster trucks performing unbelievable stunts marked the night. The venue has been among the many festival attractions for vacationers this time.
As each driver performed a stunt the audience burst into loud cheers. There were rare spectacles for spectators as cars repeatedly encircled the stadium just on two right wheels. Volunteers from the audience who responded to the invitation from drivers performing stunts were not only cheered but received prizes from the organizers.
There were beach buggies with a pillion rider driven on two rear wheels. Drivers of monster trucks showed their skills in going over a raised platform and dropping over two parked cars.
It was a sight that brought loud cheers when two riders of motorbikes alternately raised their front or rear wheels while screeching to a halt.
By far the most spectacular stunt was when the riders went over a raised platform and flew over five parked vehicles before landing to a screeching halt.
A final draw for over 400,000 entries for the Petromin Ultra 7 oil promotion was held and a Riyadh participant declared winner of a Toyota Landcruiser.
There have also been daily and weekly prizes totaling SR1 million. These included 11 Toyota Camry cars distributed at weekly prize draws and 99 LG TVs at daily draws.
