ISLAMABAD, 17 July  — Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has said India has succeeded in “trapping” Gen. Pervez Musharraf by giving him a warm welcome and acknowledging him as undisputed head of state, Online news agency reported.

“He has been trapped”, she said in an article in the Pakistani daily The Nation. “They (the Indians) have acknowledged such a thing (Musharraf’s presidency) which his countrymen are yet to accept.”

She said the Simla agreement was totally different from the Agra summit, as both leaders meeting in 1972 — President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi — carried a public mandate. “Gen. Pervez Musharraf is a weak ruler. He is illegitimate, unelected and unrepresentative,” she said. Musharraf is in India as a ruler without masses’ support, political backing and legitimacy, she added.
