MAKKAH, 22 July — The Commerce Ministry has decided to import advanced machinery for its laboratories in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. These machines are meant for discovering toxic substances such as dioxin and its derivatives in foodstuffs, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The ministry took the step following reports that carcinogenic substances were found in soy products available in the local market. Commerce Minister Osama Faqeeh issued orders to upgrade quality control laboratories under the ministry, it said. (AN)
