JEDDAH/OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, 24 July — Israel said its forces shot dead a Palestinian activist in the West Bank yesterday in what it called an operation linked to the arrest of a would-be Palestinian bomber a day earlier in a northern Israeli city.
In Gaza, Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian teenager after stones were thrown at them in Rafah, along the border with Egypt, Palestinian witnesses said.
The army did not comment directly on the death of the 15-year-old at the frontier strip, but said in a separate statement that grenades were thrown at its troops, who then fired at the attackers.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia yesterday announced a new grant of $45 million (SR168.75 million) for the Palestinian Authority.
The aid follows the meetings Palestine President Yasser Arafat had with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, in Jeddah.
Palestinian Ambassador Mustafa Deeb told Arab News that the new aid was in addition to the $250 million offered by the Kingdom earlier as its contribution to the $1 billion Al-Aqsa and Al-Quds funds.
Asked whether Arafat had discussed the matter of Arab summit with Saudi leaders, the Palestinian ambassador said the two sides have agreed to continue their consultations on the issue.
