JEDDAH, 29 July — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed recently inaugurated a festival organized by the Summer Program for the Development of Children’s Skills to celebrate the successful completion of the first month of a two-month charity event.

Prince Abdul Majeed spoke to children and viewed some of the artworks designed by orphans and blind children participating in the program. A blind child painted a portrait of the prince by running his fingers over his face.

Ilham Harasani, founder and director of the program, said the purpose of the summer club was to develop artistic talents among orphans and blind children.

In the first stage, 40 children in the age group of six to nine years joined the program. Ten of them were blind (five girls and five boys) and the other 30 were orphans (17 girls and 13 boys). Children took part in artistic activities including drawing and practiced certain needed skills.

Commenting on the response of the children to the program, Harasani said: “In general they are responding greatly. However, blind children face some difficulties in painting because they do not practice the skill at school.”
