ABHA, 30 July — Asir Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal received Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad during the latter’s visit to the region recently. The prince reportedly appreciated the discipline and contribution of the Indian expatriate community in the region during the discussion.

Later, at a reception accorded in his honor by the community, the ambassador said he was proud that the strength of Indian workers had gone up from 650,000 some 15 years ago to 1.4 million now. “We’re the largest expatriate community here, which is a clear indication of the Kingdom’s preference for their integrity and professionalism,” he said.

Referring to the age-old and strong bonds of relations between the two countries, Ahmad added: “We’ve to convert this legacy of relationship into an economic and industrial partnership, and the community can play a very constructive role in furthering this.”

He called on the community to remain united, project a good image of their country and follow the law of the land. Accompanying the ambassador were his wife Sunita Ahmad and Zikrur Rahman, first secretary at the Embassy of India.

Children welcomed the guests with flowers. Asir Indian Association General Secretary Aqeel Jamil welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the role of AIA in community welfare, cultural and educational activities. Abdul Razzak, president of the association, reviewed the activities and grievances of the community. G.V. Rao emphasized the need for a community school. —  A. Jamil
