DAMMAM, 30 July — The first unit of a new steam power plant in Ghazlan will be commissioned today by Saad Al-Mansour, director general of Saudi Electricity Company in the Eastern Province. “This is the first step to start experimental operation of the plant,” an official company statement said.
The plant, which is estimated to cost SR6.5 billion, will have four steam-powered units, each with a capacity of 600 megawatts, the statement said, adding that it would have a total generating capacity of 2,400 megawatts.
The project includes construction of distribution lines and support systems. “Its control system is based on modern technology,” the company said, adding that the system ensures effective operation of the plant.
