JEDDAH, 1 August — A 28-year-old Sudanese woman gave to birth to quadruplets at a private hospital here yesterday. The two male and two female babies, born prematurely, weigh between 1,100 and 1,200 grams, doctors said.

“The Sudanese woman conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) after five years of primary infertility,” said Dr. Hassan Ali, head of the neonatal unit at the Saudi German Hospital (SGH), who delivered the quadruplets by caesarian section.

The newborns are in the neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital and are on ventilators. “The babies are being fed through a nasogastric tube and are in fairly good condition. They are expected to leave hospital within three weeks,” Dr. Ali told Arab News.

The babies have been named Muhammad, Ahmad, Fatima and Douaa.

Meanwhile, a Lebanese mother and her three sons  who were injured in a car crash on the Qunfuda-Jeddah Road last week, are making fast recovery at SGH, hospital sources said.
