TAIF, 3 August — Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, will begin a several-day tour of the summer resort city of Taif today, it was announced yesterday. The crown prince is scheduled to commission a number of tourism and development projects in the city. Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed highlighted the significance of the royal visit and said it was aimed at understanding the developmental and welfare requirements of Taif people. The governor described Taif as one of the major tourist destinations in the Kingdom. Meanwhile, Prince Abdullah telephoned Iranian President Muhammad Khatami to congratulate him on the inauguration of his second term in office. The two leaders reviewed major global developments. (SPA)
