JEDDAH, 4 August — Saudi Arabian Airlines has signed an agreement with a national company to construct a building for maintenance of aircraft and ground equipment at Prince Muhammad Airport in Madinah.
Muhammad Saud Hashimi, vice president for infrastructure affairs, said the project will be completed within a year. The maintenance building will be located south of the passenger lounge and will cover an area of 8,000 square meters. The building will have all required facilities including a central air conditioning system as well as early warning and fire-fighting systems. There will be a workshop for airport ground-support equipment and a warehouse for spare parts.
Saudia transported more than 560,000 passengers on 6,223 flights to and from the Madinah airport last year. The airline’s technical department provides maintenance to its large fleet of aircraft at more than 77 domestic and international destinations.
