DAMMAM, 12 August — A consortium is taking shape to set up strategic gigantic projects in the Kingdom similar to Saudi Aramco and SABIC, Al Eqtisadiah reported. A committee has already been set up for this purpose. "The committee comprises businessmen who are interested in giant projects in addition to representatives of the biggest strategic projects in the Kingdom," said Dr. Bassam Budy, Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry secretary- general. " A Saudi consortium is necessitated by the fact that foreign companies are controlling all bids for contracts offered by Aramco and SABIC," he said. "Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish new, giant Saudi companies to complement the work of Aramco and SABIC, especially in the gas and service sectors.
