RIYADH, 16 August — “Bull markets are born on pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism and die on euphoria. The time of maximum pessimism is the best time to buy, and the time of maximum optimism is the best time to sell.”
This sage advice from Sir John Templeton — founder of the global Templeton organization — comes as a welcome relief to stock investors and would-be investors with the comforting thought that the bearish sentiment in the stock markets worldwide — and with the Philippine stock market in doldrums — in fact offers the best opportunity to profit from the stock market.
With that positive note, the OFW Investors Society (Ofwins) is again inviting Filipinos in the Kingdom to attend the third investment literacy seminar to be held on Aug. 23 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Philippine Embassy.
The seminar will cover not only stock investment (Introduction to Stock Investment) but also, fixed income investing (Advanced Fixed Income Investing).”
The fixed income investing portion will essentially amplify the principles/lessons propounded in earlier seminar on Basics of Fixed Income Investing conducted on June 28 in the same venue.
As with the earlier seminar, this module which covers Treasury Bills, Treasury Bonds and other fixed income instruments, is most suited for first-time investors and those with aversion to higher risked investment vehicles like stocks and mutual funds.
The stock investment portion of the seminar will be handled by Romie Cahucom of Arab National Bank while Rodolfo Yap of Saudi Hollandi Bank will talk about the fixed income investment portion.
Consul Celeste Balatbat, second secretary at the Philippine Embassy, and will deliver the opening message for the seminar, representing Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla who has a prior commitment in the Eastern Region.
The seminar is being conducted in coordination with the Philippine Embassy through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Riyadh.
Ofwins has been at the forefront of the campaign for investment literacy and financial independence for Overseas Filipino Workers.
Apart from the monthly seminars scheduled at the Philippine Embassy, Ofwins will bring its much-valued seminar on the ABCs of Savings and Investment to the Eastern Region with Hofuf scheduled on Aug. 30, Dammam on Sept. 6 and Jubail on Sept. 27.
These seminars will be conducted upon the invitation of the POLO’s Eastern Region Operations headed by Assistant Labor Attaché Jalilo de la Torre and with the support of various organizations in the region. The Aug. 23 seminar in Riyadh will be open to all interested individuals on a first-come-first-served basis.
Those interested are requested to confirm attendance at least a day before seminar date. The contact persons are: Romie Cahucom (01) 482-81-99; Manny Villanueva, 053410324; Rey Collantes (01), 220-23-17; Alex Bello, 054490471; and Edgar Aves, 052972313.
