RIYADH, 22 August — Saudi Arabia yesterday lifted a ban on imports of chilled and frozen meat of cows, sheep and goats and their products from South Africa.

This followed a meeting between Minister of Commerce Osama Faqeeh and South African Consul General Mohammed Dangor at which the diplomat assured that South Africa would adhere to Saudi conditions for imports of meat.

Faqeeh, meanwhile, will leave for Johannesburg on Saturday at the head of the Kingdom’s delegation to the World Earth Summit which opens on Monday.

The nine-day summit will focus on means of improving the living conditions of people, social justice, preservation of natural resources, opening markets for exports of the developing countries and North-South partnership.
