RIYADH, 29 August — Eight of the Kingdom’s major prisons have now gone high-tech in terms of security surveillance.
Under an SR12 million contract, the Riyadh-based Jamal Jaroudi Est. has put in place an integrated system to reinforce security surveillance over prison inmates and forestall any attempt to breach the perimeter from the inside or outside.
“The system boasts vandal-proof color cameras sensitive enough to perform in low-light conditions,” a company official told Arab News.
He said the system interfaces with intelligent devices for intrusion detection and alarms. The fully integrated system provides visual indication and location of all alarms in the facility to officers in the control rooms.
The company also disclosed that it has implemented a sophisticated access control system for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Riyadh. The system comprises highly secure biometric readers in addition to the standard proximity readers.
Strategically placed cameras integrated with the system provide visual incident clues in the control room.
Commenting on the current security situation in the Kingdom, he said compounds housing Western expatriates have become sensitive to security threats of all kinds. “Various measures are being taken to beef up the security of compounds, dwellings, car parks and vehicles.”
The official pointed out that the smart detection system has made it possible not only to detect security breach but also find out who caused it.
