JEDDAH, 10 September — Striker Ali Yazid’s conversion of a penalty enabled Al-Nasr salvage a 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal in the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup match on Sunday. Favorites Al-Hilal stamped their mark in the Riyadh derby early by opening the scoring in the tenth with midfielder Muhammad Shalhoub sending in a powerful shot the left of Nasr keeper Faisal Al-Suwainie.
Though Nasr restored parity in the 19th minute, via the penalty, Hilal struck once more in the 79th.
But the goal was ruled offside by the referee.
In other Group A matches, Al-Qadsiyah defeated Al-Riyadh 3-1 in Dammam, while Al-Ittefaq suffered its first defeat of the tournament, losing 1-0 to Al-Shabab in another tough match in the capital.
Al-Shabab maintained its lead in the group with this victory.
The lone goal was scored by Abdul Aziz Al- Saaran in the final moments of the game.
In Dammam, Qadsiyah moved up the table to second spot in the group after logging full points against Al-Riyadh.
Yasser Al-Qahtani scored two goals for Qadsiyah in the fifth and 85th minutes after Hani Al-Salem had struck the second goal in the 28th.
Riyadh’s consolation came from Walid Al-Rubaiaan.
Riyadh, with this loss, dropped to fifth.
