RIYADH, 15 September — Filipino workers interested in going into business now or later are invited to attend another seminar on stock investment on Sept. 20 at the Philippine Embassy.
“Investors should look for businesses which are simple and understandable, have consistent operating history and long-term favorable aspects.”
“Once you know what the market is thinking, jump the other way, bet on the unexpected.”
These lines respectively represent fragments from the investing methods of the world’s greatest investors Peter Lynch, Warren Buffett and George Soros.
Up for discussion are topics that continue to intrigue investors, such as the contention that it is better to “invest in companies, not in the stock market.”
There is also the gem of advice for investors to “look for businesses which are simple and understandable, have consistent operating history and long-term favorable aspects.”
Still another great investor had said: “Once you know what the market is thinking, jump the other way, bet on the unexpected.”
Ofwins president Romie Cahucom said the seminar will also feature practical guidelines and hints at establishing a stock portfolio.
The stock investment seminar represents a more advanced version of the earlier seminar conducted on the same topic on Aug. 23 at the same venue.
After the seminar, there will be a forum relating to the earlier seminars conducted on May 24, June 28 and Aug. 23 encompassing such topics as ABCs of Savings and Investment, Fixed-Income Investing, Mutual Fund Investing and Stock Market.
Previous resource speakers Medardo Biaco (Ofwins vice president) and Rodolfo Yap (Saudi Hollandi Bank) will serve as panelists for the forum, together with Cahucom.
Philippine Welfare Officer Angel Borja will deliver the opening message.
Cajucom said the seminar series is being conducted in coordination with the Philippine Embassy through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Riyadh.
In a bid to spread the word about investment in other places where Filipinos are concentrated, Ofwins went to Hofuf on Aug. 30 and to Alkhobar on Sept. 6 to conduct similar seminars, featuring the module ABCs of Savings and Investment.
Ofwins said it also welcomes all previous seminar participants and first-timers for the seminar and investment forum. Those attending are requested to confirm attendance not later than Sept. 19.
