DOHA, 8 May 2003 — The Gulf Cooperation Council states ended a two-day meeting of interior ministers here yesterday with a call for more steps to improve security cooperation.
A statement at the end of the meeting said the ministers had reviewed the latest security developments in the region and expressed concern over the repercussions of the war against Iraq and the chaotic situation there. They reiterated the importance of enabling Iraqis to manage their own affairs as soon as possible.
The ministers also urged international and humanitarian organizations, notably the United Nations, to shoulder its responsibility toward Iraq’s security, stability, integrity of its territories and preservation of its heritage.
The ministers urged the US, Britain and international and humanitarian organizations to double their efforts to end the suffering of the Iraqi people.
They also emphasized the united stance of the GCC states to combat all forms of terrorism.
