JEDDAH, 12 May 2003 — Summer courses are expected to run to capacity this year judging by the overwhelming number of inquiries from students and parents.
According to Kurt Brett, Berlitz general manager for Saudi Arabia, enrollments for summer courses could go up by a whopping 40 percent this year.
“This is because parents have been telling us that they are not going to leave the Kingdom this year and they want their children to join summer courses and other activities,” he told Arab News.
Hugh Bermingham of ELS (English Language Schools) Center on Sitteen Street said the number of inquiries for ELS’ English language courses had overwhelmed his language school too.
“There have been many inquiries but once schools close, students, especially in the 8-13 age group, will want to enroll for summer courses,” he said.
The British Council, which suspended operations before the war in Iraq, will resume on May 24 with regular and summer courses.
