JEDDAH, 17 May 2003 — Security companies in Saudi Arabia have received a flood of requests from government agencies for equipment to protect their premises and other sites liable to become targets for terrorist attacks. Their business is expected to increase by 100 percent and profits could reach SR100 million by the end of the year, Al-Watan reported.

Al-Madar Company general manager Adel Al-Shareef told the paper his company received a number of requests from both government agencies and private enterprises to assess their security needs and protect their premises from terrorist attack.

His company represents several international companies in the security sector. Popular security solutions included body scanners which detect suspicious materials, he added. Potential clients besides government agencies include Aramco companies, SABIC, gold factories and banks as well as hotels, residential compounds, shopping centers and embassies.
