RIYADH, 20 May 2003 — The Canadian government has launched an investigation to trace Canadian national Abdul Rahman Mansour Jabarah, one of the 19 terrorists on the run after a shootout with security forces here recently.
Jabarah, whose photo was published by the Ministry of Interior together with 18 others on May 8, is wanted here following the recovery of a huge cache of arms in Riyadh.
Jabarah, together with his brother Mohammed Mansour, was a resident of St. Catharines in Canada. “An investigation is being conducted by authorities in Canada into the case of Jabarah, but we can’t spell out the findings of the investigation at this stage,” Canadian diplomats said here today.
Canadian Ambassador Melvyn M. MacDonald, who toured the bomb site at the Al-Hamra compound recently, pointed out that two Canadians were injured in the suicide bombings, but could not give details of the probe. But according to a report, both the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) have launched their own investigation into Jabarah’s alleged involvement with Al-Qaeda’s terror network.
Jabarah is the elder brother of Mohamed Mansour, who according to American and Canadian authorities, was recruited by Al-Qaeda leaders to blow up American targets in Southeast Asia.
