JEDDAH, 21 May 2003 — The government of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali will continue the policies of President Pervez Musharraf, which had strengthened the economy and brought Pakistan out of international isolation, said Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi at a reception hosted in his honor by the Pakistan Journalists Forum here recently.
Pervez Elahi, who is on a private visit to the Kingdom, said his provincial government had taken a number of steps to bring about radical changes in the education, health and agricultural sectors.
The police department was being revamped and laws would be enacted to make the police more efficient and accountable.
Pervez said his government would provide free education from class one to ten in all government schools, with free textbooks for all. A uniform curriculum would also be introduced.
Private schools would allocate a 5 percent quota for poor and needy students who qualify for admission on merit, he added.
“Our government is trying to make Pakistan an investment-friendly state,” he said.
In the annual development program budget for the next three years, education, agriculture, health reforms, small industries and tourism industries would be given top priority. “We decided to spend 7 billion rupees per year on development schemes,” he stressed.
