JEDDAH, 23 May 2003 — In the eighth week’s matches of Friday League Division II, Nadir Toor had a facile win over Lux Progress, Nestle Milo registered thumping victory over Hero Rangers, Sahari Pack outplayed Talha Optics, Adamjee Insurance prevailed over International Indian School, Hafil beat Kaia and BRC defeated Saudi Majestics.
Nadir Toor XI dismissed Lux Progress for 107 runs only, and then scored the required runs in 11 overs without loss. Javid was the chief destroyer, taking four wickets for 23 runs in 21 balls including a hat trick.
Nadir Toor (2 for 25) too kept batsmen very watchful. Joot batted with lot of courage. He contributed an unbeaten 47 including 4 boundaries. Nadir Toor XI openers Ghayoor (54) and Nadir Toor (29 n.o.) then raced to the victory target in only 11 overs without being separated.
In another encounter, Hero Rangers, set a target of 187 runs for victory, were restricted by Nestle Milo to 171 runs. Nestle Milo got off to sound start as Aurangzeb (47 — 5 fours and a six) and Amjad (14 — 2 fours) put on 40 runs. Hero Rangers were then bashed by Ahsen’s blitzkrieg. He hit 7 huge sixes and 6 fours in his unbeaten 98. Nestle Milo posted 186 runs for 3 wickets in its allotted overs. Hero Rangers openers Iftikhar (40 — 5 fours) and Sardar (44 — 4 fours and a six) took up the challenge and posted 82 runs in 8 overs. But after their departure Rangers struggled and stuttered to 171.
Talha Optics almost pulled out a surprise in its match against Sahari Pack. Saadatullah (4 for 22), Tanveer (2 for 21) and Naveed (2 for 18) destroyed Talha Optics batting, as they were shot out for 111 runs.
Sahari Pack then struggled as Imran (3 for 32), Saeed (2 for 24) and Saeed Ahmad (2 for 17) made scoring difficult. Sahari Pack was 98 for 8 at one stage, but Zafar (24) and Habib (10 n.o.) took Sahari Pack to victory in the penultimate over.
International Indian School youngsters set Adamjee Insurance 188 runs for victory, and the Insurance side achieved it for the loss of 5 wickets. The IIS batted first and Fawaz (68 — 6 fours), Ahmad (20) and Hamza (35) propelled their team to a challenging tally. Qadeer Baig (4 for 28) tormented boys with his flighted deliveries.
Imran Nazar (95 – 8 fours and 2 sixes) single handedly took Adamjee Insurance close to victory. Adamjee Insurance overtook school’s team score with one over to spare. Hafil easily overhauled KAIA’s tally of 166 that included contribution of Syed Noor (42) and Akhtar Abbar (44). Hafil openers Talha (24 — 3 fours) and Abedi (61 — 8 fours) set the stage for early victory. Saleem Nahdi (58 n.o.) was solid like a rock. Hafil cruised to victory in 15 overs losing two wickets only.
Saudi Majestic’s 179 runs was not enough as BRC managed to overhaul that in the last over. Khalil Qazi (30) and Yousuf (31) consolidated Saudi Majestic position after the loss of both the openers without scoring. Arif (46) and Zubair (55 — 8 fours) played sound innings and took Saudi Majestic to a fighting position of 178 runs. BRC lost Taj for 4 but later batsmen Saleh (42) and Rafiq (44 — 5 fours and a six) played on undeterred. BRC secured victory in 18 overs.
