SANAA, 29 May 2003 — Saudi Arabia has handed over to Yemen four Yemenis wanted for suspected links to Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network, a government daily said yesterday.
“There are several other people suspected of belonging to the Al-Qaeda network who are being held by Saudi security authorities and they will also be handed over at a later date,” Al-Thawra newspaper quoted a Yemeni security official as saying.
The official did not say when the four were handed over or if they included three suspects connected to last year’s attack on a French supertanker off the Yemeni coast. Yemen had earlier this year asked Saudi Arabia to hand over the three suspects.
The Limburg was badly damaged after suspected Al-Qaeda members rammed an explosives-laden boat into the tanker off the Gulf of Aden, nearly two years after an attack on the US warship Cole in a Yemeni port killed 17 Americans.
