JEDDAH, 29 May 2003 — The new chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Adel Faqeeh, in his first meeting yesterday outlined the role of businesswomen in influencing and shaping the JCCI’s decision-making process. Nineteen businesswomen were among the 220 members who attended the meeting.
“I’m keen to activate the role of businesswomen in the chamber’s decision-making process,” said Faqeeh who recently succeeded Abdullah A. Zainal on the latter’s appointment as minister of state.
Faqeeh’s call to businesswomen to take an active interest in the chamber’s work comes in the context of a steady increase in the number of company registrations at the chamber.
He called on members to give due importance to the chamber’s monthly meetings and attend them regularly “because that’s the only way you can be in regular touch with the chamber.” He promised to open “other channels” of communication between chamber officials and the members.
A survey conducted among its members shows that 80 percent of them preferred 1 p.m. as the best time for meetings; 68 percent asked that an agenda be circulated before the meetings and 50 percent felt that the meetings should have open discussion on all issues.
