SEOUL, 30 May 2003 — Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah ibn Ibrahim Al-Sheikh said the Kingdom was keen to uphold justice and spread good values as a means of fighting corruption. In doing so, the Kingdom was guided by Islamic teachings.
Addressing the Third World Forum on Fighting Corruption and Security Integrity which opened yesterday in the South Korean capital, Dr. Al-Sheikh stressed that religion represented a strong deterrent against corruption. One of the main obstacles to development and progress, corruption prevented the upholding of justice and ensuring security in societies thus leading to the spread of crime, he added.
Dr. Al-Sheikh said Saudi Arabia had enacted several legislations derived from Shariah to control corruption and laid future plans to guard against any increase in the level of corruption as a result of world developments.
