JEDDAH, 30 May 2003 — Hempel Paints upset favorite ALJ Prado 83-79 in the 2003 Seiko-JBL basketball tournament at the Bin Mahfouz Sports Complex basketball court. Joseph Defante chipped in with 29 points for Hempel and was named Seiko best player of the game. Edwin Gadingan paced ALJ Prado with 33 points.
Mazda beat Tetra Pak 64-63. Tetra Pak almost wrapped up the game with 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter but missed the free throws. Mazda went to Caoile in the last offensive play and the plan paid well when he got fouled with 2 seconds to go. He missed the first basket but sank the second to grab the lead. Vhon Parto finished with 25 points for Mazda and was adjudged as the Al Hamrani Fuchs Petroleum best player of the game while Belardo and Estanislao added 13 points a piece for Tetra Pak.
ABS-CBN defeated MTTS 66-63. Rene Consignado topscored with 21 points for ABS-CBN and was the choice as the Al Rabie Pulz best player of the game while Santos pumped 21 points for MTTS.
In Friday games, EasyLife beat Saudi Foods Maggi 51-49. Scores kept changing in the whole game. With 5 seconds remaining in the final period and Maggi was ahead with 2 points, Leng of Easy Life squeezed his way in for the final assault. The ball went in as the final buzzer sounded. Waleed Petrasanta top score with 17 points for Easy Life and was adjudged as Royal Brunei best player of the game while Pineda scored 13 points for Maggi.
United Naghi defeated Gulf Royal 89-60. Coach Danny Lequin applied man-to-man defense for United Naghi in the whole game to halt the running game of Gulf Royal. The plan paid well when Gulf Royal started to feel exhausted in the fourth quarter. Aaron Mayo bannered United Naghi with 18 points and was named Seiko best player of the game while Bugayong chipped in 23 points for Gulf Royal.

Freshlook Amico upset Al Anjal Renegades 50-47. It was another tight ball game in JBL. Al Anjal in their last offensive play missed the target. Lui got the next ball possession for Freshlook Amico and unleashed a desperation jumper which went in as the final buzzer sounded. Kattab top score with 17 points for Freshlook Amico and was adjudged as the Seiko best player of the game while Villegas scored 16 points for Al Anjal Renegades.
