CAIRO, 2 June 2003 — Egyptian shares closed mixed yesterday, with big-cap stocks sluggish in a slight correction following recent strong gains but small caps and cement shares remaining robust, traders said. “Blue-chips have really been quite stagnant and have lost their spark in the last week in favor of cements and small caps,” said Mohamed Radwan, institutional sales trader at Delta Securities. The cement sector was supported by strong fundamentals and hopes of foreign investor interest, he added. The benchmark Hermes index eased 20.91 points, or 0.3 percent, to last trade at 8,105.43 points. The broader CIBC index closed up 0.32 points, or 0.4 percent, at 74.95 points.
