KUWAIT CITY, 2 June 2003 — Four Cabinet members who were originally elected to Kuwait’s National Assembly resigned their ministerial posts yesterday in order to be able to compete in polls to be held on July 5.
The four ministers handed in their resignations to Kuwaiti Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Abdullah Al-Sabah as an administrative procedure in order to legally run in the parliamentary race.
A statement issued by the Cabinet named the resigned ministers as: Ahmed Al-Baqer, minister of justice, endowments and Islamic affairs; Salah Khorshid, minister for commerce and industry; Talal Al-Ayar, minister of electricity and water; and Fahed Al-Mai, minister of public works and minister of state for housing affairs.
Meanwhile Kuwait’s ministry of interior announced yesterday that candidate registration for this year’s parliamentary elections would begin today.
