JEDDAH, 6 June 2003 — Arab News, Al Majal ServiceMaster, Saudi ABV, Unilever-Dove, Gulfmaid, Dynarabia & Hanco Maintenance emerged winners in last week games of the ongoing 8th Seiko-16th FBA Basketball Tournament at the Sheraton Compound Basketball Court in Jeddah.
Last week games resulted to the following: Unilever-Dove led by Leo Rivera posted their second win in four outings over the Sheraton-Pepsi squad of Jun Abriz (71-66) in the opening game. Villareal & Alfonso scored for Dove while Buenaventura and Asperga played well for the Sheraton-Pepsi team. Hempel Paints of Mel Tienzo and Ruben Villarosa lost twice in a row when they were beaten by Arab News led by Boy Lucas (83-71) and Dynarabia Ltd. of Jun Natad (72-71). The Foursome combination of Togonon, Manguerra, Dael and Arquero were instrumental in the victory of Arab News over Hempel Paints cagers under Mel Tienzo and Ruben Villarosa.
Zuhair Fayez Partnership lost for the second time in the league when they were outscored by the stronger team of Al-Majal ServiceMaster managed by Ken Bautista and Daryl Francico via the relentless efforts of Togonon (25), Parohinog (15), Carpio (14), Manguerra (14) and Consignado (11). Peredo of Zuhair Fayez Partnership topped the scoring with 33 points, followed by Akkira (15) and Gonzalvo (12).
Al-Majal also won by a big margin over the SACO for Hardware team led by Rollie Bernales in their other match with the final score of (128 -51). De Sagun, Bernales and Calderon scored for SACO. Saudi ABV of Benjie Felix recorded an upset victory over Junastar Cargo Services in a very thrilling and heartbreaking ballgame. With only few seconds remaining, the score was 91-89 in favor of Junastar Cargo but two successive twinners from Son and MVP Leo Almoite sealed the victory for Saudi ABV.
Gulfmaid turned the tables over Finetool Saudi Arabia led by Herman Mallari, Dagohoy, Tejada, Dalit and Silao at (86-78). Saludes, Mercado, Largod Bayutas led Gulfmaid to their 3rd win in four games in the elimination round.
Hanco Maintenance won against the equally strong team of NAI-Juffali led by Alex Vidal, Andy Batayola and Dante Rivero. Players of the games last week who will all receive 40 percent discount card from Essam Abbas of Samsung-UMG are the following: Villegas of Unilever (Dove), Manguerra of Arab News, Togonon of Al Majal, Pat Cecilio of Saudi ABV, Estigoy of Al-Majal, Mercado of Gulfmaid, Villegas of Dynarabia and April Mabarit of Hanco Maintenance.
