MANILA, 7 June 2003 — Seven of the 18 tires on a Saudi Arabian Airlines plane burst as it landed at the Philippine capital’s international airport yesterday, causing the jet to stall on the runway and prompting 45-minute delays for other flights, an airport official said. None of the 421 passengers or 24 airline staff on Flight 870 from Jeddah were hurt, said Joseph Agustin, chief of the airport safety at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. An official investigation has been launched.
