JEDDAH, 9 June 2003 -- A number of exhibitions and presentations are open to members of the community at the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah during the coming weekends as part of the Philippine Independence Day celebration.

Participating in the activities, in coordination with the consulate and it?s attached agencies, are various civic groups and cooperatives.

Edilberto Rufino, chairman of the OFW Cooperative Council (OFWCC), said the month-long celebrations, which opened last Friday, will continue on June 13, 19 and 20.

?The weekend presentations are primarily for the purpose of cultivating business consciousness among OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers). These will give them the opportunity to choose among the various businesses available at home. So come one, come all,? Rufino said.

Among the participating groups are the Pangasinan Saudi Workers Investors MPC, Filipino Muslim League, Bagong Bicol Saro nin ]eddah, KAYA Businessmen MPC, Organization of Filipino Photographers, Cebuano Speaking Organization in Saudi Arabia, Iloilo Migrant Workers, Boholano Community Coop, Patak-patak Coop, Kapit Bisig, Circulo Ilonggo Saudi Arabia, Bileg Ilocano Saudi Arabia -- BIC MPC, and OFW Investors Cooperative.

The sponsoring companies include Seiko, Samsung, Saudi Amoudi Exchange, Sky Freight Forwarders, WRJ Cargo, AI-Romaizan Factory, and the Philippine National Bank, as well as the Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA).

On Friday, the Association of Cabalen Expatriates will be presenting a cultural show.

A number of activities have also been lined up in the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, with various groups participating.
