NEW YORK, 10 June 2003 — Jamie Moyer became the first major league pitcher to win 10 games this season when he led Seattle to a 7-0 Interleague victory over the New York Mets Sunday, completing a doubleheader sweep for the Mariners.

Ichiro Suzuki had four hits in the opener as the Mariners destroyed the Mets 13-1 behind a six-hitter from Freddy Garcia.

Seattle outhit New York 31-9 over the two contests and out-scored the Mets 20-1 to finish a 12-game road trip at a franchise-best 11-1.

In the nightcap, Moyer (10-2) won his seventh straight start. He allowed two hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking one.

Suzuki and Dan Wilson both had two hits and drove in a run in the second game while Greg Colbrunn and Willie Bloomquist added two hits apiece to the Seattle attack.

Mike Bacsik (0-1) gave up five runs, four earned, on 11 hits over five innings to take the loss. In the opener, the Mariners pounded out 17 hits, including four by Suzuki, who also scored twice and drove in a run.

Mike Cameron drove in three runs with two hits and Ben Davis added two hits and two RBI for Seattle. Garcia (6-6) allowed one run in a complete game, striking out seven and walking one.

In San Juan, Puerto Rico, Brad Wilkerson’s eighth-inning double drove in the winning run as the Montreal Expos claimed their fourth straight victory, 3-2 over the slumping Texas Rangers. Wilkerson drove in two runs for Montreal while Mike Barrett homered.

Phillies 7 Athletics 1

In Philadelphia, Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer and Kevin Millwood pitched seven strong innings to lead the Phillies past the Oakland Athletics 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Millwood (8-3) allowed one run on six hits and struck out six and walked one while battling flu. Marlon Byrd had three hits and drove in a run for the Phillies. Mark Mulder (8-4) gave up four runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out five and walking three.

In the nightcap, Jim Thome, Bobby Abreu and Placido Polanco all homered to lead the Phillies to an 8-3 triumph and the sweep.

Angels 8 Marlins 5

In Miami, Troy Glaus homered and drove in two runs to help the Anaheim Angels beat the Florida Marlins 8-5. Brad Fullmer also drove in two runs for Anaheim. Ramon Ortiz (6-5) allowed five runs on six hits over six innings while Troy Percival pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save of the season.

In Houston, Tim Redding pitched seven strong innings to lead the Astros to their seventh straight win, 2-1 over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Redding (4-4) allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Red Sox 9 Brewers 1

In Milwaukee, Kevin Millar homered and drove in four runs as the Boston Red Sox crushed the Brewers 9-1. Derek Lowe (6-3) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts over six innings.

Rockies 8 Royals 7

In Denver, Chris Stynes had three RBI to help the Colorado Rockies edge the Kansas City Royals 8-7. Larry Walker and Charles Johnson both added two RBI for Colorado. Scott Elarton (3-1) allowed six runs on 11 hits over five innings for the win while Jose Jimenez pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the season.

In Cincinnati, Kelvim Escobar tossed a four-hitter for his third career shutout as the Toronto Blue Jays blanked the Reds 5-0.

Escobar (3-3) struck out eight and walked one and also drove in a run with his first career hit. Frank Catalanotto drove in two runs for Toronto.

Cardinals 11 Orioles 10

In St. Louis, Jim Edmonds hit two homers and drove in three runs while Scott Rolen hit a grand slam and had four hits to guide the Cardinals past the Baltimore Orioles 11-10.

Tino Martinez added two hits and two RBI for St Louis.

White Sox 10 Dodgers 3

In Los Angeles, Frank Thomas hit a two-run homer and Carlos Lee added a three-run shot in the seventh inning to pace the Chicago White Sox to a 10-3 victory over the Dodgers.

Giants 7 Tigers 6

In San Francisco, Rich Aurilia and Neifi Perez both had two hits and drove in two runs as the Giants rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-6. Joe Nathan (6-2) pitched two shutout innings for the win. Tim Worrell pitched the ninth for his 16th save of the season.

Diamondbacks 13 Indians 3

In Phoenix, Robby Hammock had four hits and drove in three runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks brushed aside the Cleveland Indians 13-3. Alex Cintron and Junior Spivey homered for the D-Backs while Chad Moeller had three hits and drove in two runs.

Padres 9 Twins 4

In San Diego, Mark Loretta had four hits and drove in two runs as the Padres scored six runs in the eighth inning to rally past the Minnesota Twins 9-4.

Ryan Klesko, Brian Buchanan and Gary Matthews Jr. all homered for the Padres.

Cubs 8 Yankees 7

In Chicago, Mark Prior pitched six strong innings and Moises Alou hit a three-run homer as the Cubs defeated the New York Yankees 8-7.
