RIYADH, 12 June 2003 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah held wide-ranging talks here yesterday with Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf on global issues including Middle East peace and security situation in Iraq.
“The talks with the crown prince focused on current issues, most importantly the developments in Palestine,” a report carried by the official Saudi Press Agency said.
The two countries emphasized the need to pressure Israel to end its occupation of Arab territories and to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The two sides also urged the occupying forces in Iraq to restore peace and stability in Iraqi cities and allow the Iraqis to run the affairs of their own country.
President Musharraf and Crown Prince Abdullah reviewed the latest global developments and explored prospects of expanding cooperation between their two countries, the SPA said.
The talks were attended on the Saudi side by Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, Prince Abdul Rahman, deputy minister of defense and aviation, Prince Miteb, minister of municipal and rural affairs, Prince Nawaf, director of intelligence, and Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal.
Musharraf also expressed his condolences over the victims of the May 12 Riyadh bombings.
Pakistani diplomats here said the two countries had already forged closer relations in almost all sectors including trade and economy, politics, industry and manpower, culture and religion.
