JEDDAH, 13 June 2003 — United Yousef Naghi beat Al Anjal Renegades 87-60 in the year 2003 Seiko-JBL basketball tournament at the Bin Mahfouz Sports Complex basketball court. Three teams are vying for the second spot namely Al Tazaj, Freshlook and Gulf Royal Restaurant.
Al Anjal playing with 5 players tried to keep the game at bay but United Naghi with their usual trapping defense wore out Anjal in the final period. Sihawi Sarip pumped in 16 points for United Yousef Naghi and was adjudged as the Seiko best player of the game while Arnel Tablante paced Al Anjal with 21 points.
Freshlook Amico defeated Gulf Royal Restaurant 61-55. Relying in their tall front line, Amico managed to dominate the shaded area.
Gulf Royal tried to get back to the game with back-to-back triples but committed passing errors in the dying seconds. Bong Umlas topscored with 19 points for Amico Freshlook and was named as the Al Hamrani Fuchs Petroleum best player of the game while Bugayong scored 15 points for Gulf Royal Restaurant.
Huta Sete beat Seiko-Butler 73-64. Huta Sete displayed heart in the dying minutes with Jonjay attacking the shaded area and chipped in with 21 points. Bobby was the unanimous choice for the Al Rabie Pulz best player of the game while Arce top score with 22 points for Seiko-Butler.
In Thursday games, Saudi Foods Maggi beat Mazda 75-68. Mazda almost upset the defending champion Maggi with a barrage of three pointers from Eric Vhon Parto and Caoile. Maggi applied man-to-man defense to handcuff Eric Parto Mazda’s main man in the dying seconds.
Pineda chipped in with 23 points for Maggi and was adjudged as the Seiko best player of the game while Eric Parto top score with 27 points for Mazda.
The event is managed by Jeddah Basketball League headed by M. Rasheed Suyat (President), Joe dela Cerna (Chairman) and August Juarez (Tournament Director).
