RIYADH, 13 June 2003 — With the unexpected success of its maiden Pinoy Doubles Tennis Challenge early this year, Pinoy Netters Club 102 began its second and biggest tournament of the year, the “Pinoy Cup 2003 Team Tennis Challenge”, at Al Yamama Hotel Tennis Courts.

In celebration of 105th Philippine Independence Day, 16 competing teams for Pinoy Cup 2003 were named after Filipino national heroes.

A total of 128 tennis players joined this prestigious competition. The participants were divided into two groups, the top two finishers of which will qualify for the trophy standings.

Each group will comprise of eight players.

The tournament will run up to Aug. 15, 2003.

Albin Guinto, Chair of Pinoy Netters, said this tournament, a major one, was organized to raise funds for Bantay Bata 163.

For its first tennis tournament, Pinoy Netters shelled out more than $100 for Bantay Bata 163, a Philippine-based foundation caring for the sick and maltreated children.
