NEW DELHI, 18 June 2003 — A Special CBI court in Ranchi has ordered the Bihar director general of police to arrest a Congress MP from Begusarai, Rajo Singh, in connection with a fodder scam.
The court, which had earlier rejected Singh’s petitions for anticipatory bail in four cases, served the order in response to the investigating agency’s plea for directions to the Bihar Police to arrest the Congress MP, CBI sources said yesterday.
Prior to this, the court had directed the superintendent of police, CBI, to execute a non-bailable arrest warrant against Singh.
The Congress MP had been charged in connection with the withdrawal of Rs 187 crore and 39 crore from the Doranda (Ranchi) and Chaibasa (West Singhbhum) treasuries.
The charges against Singh stem from his time as a legislator. He has contested them on technical grounds, pleading parliamentary immunity, but this was rejected.
