RIYADH, 20 June 2003 — Imran XI defeated Tamimi Sports Club to win the Maaza Cup 2003 softball cricket tournament organized by Bankal Sports Club, Riyadh. In the finals played here at Exit 16 ground, Imran XI, batting first, scored 189 for the loss of 5 wickets. Alam topscored with 53 runs while Istiyaq contributed 34, Nadeem Mangalpete 45 and Akbar 21 to the total.
Amir and Sohail took two wickets each for Tamimi Sports Club, who were bowled out for 108. Faheem and Sohail were the only two batsmen to enter double figures. Faheem scored fine 42 while Sohail contributed 12.
For Imran XI, Nasir bowled well and took 3 wickets conceding 29 runs. Beside Man of the Match of finals, Alam of Imran XI bagged Man of the Series for his excellent all round performance in the tournament.
Chief guests Sayeed Adel Jaradi, Syed Farooq of Gulf Union Juice Factory (Maaza) and Razi Mohiuddin General Secretary Riyadh Cricket Association spoke on the occasion and gave away the prices. Besides trophies, cash prices were awarded to the winners and runners.
