JEDDAH, 20 June 2003 — Saad bin Abi Waqas (Green) won the first Inter-School Under-17 League cum knockout tournament organized by Jeddah Cricket League (JCL), by beating Pakistan International School (English Section) in the final by 5 wickets at Juffali Michelin ground last Friday.
PISJ (ES) won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to score an imposing 204 for 5 in 20 overs. SBAW (Green) reached the target with five wickets in hand and with four balls to spare.
PISJ Skipper Imran Nasir once again batted magnificently and scored an unbeaten 139 which included 17 boundaries and a towering six. He showed his class with his second century of the tournament. He added 123 runs for the fourth wicket with Raza, who contributed only 14 runs. Hamza retired hurt after scoring 13. Usman Ali Sabri took 3 wickets for 38 runs.
In reply, Saad bin Waqas (Green) were off to a good start as openers Hasnat and Shoaib Ali Sabri put on 68 runs in 5.3 overs. Hasnat made 36 off 17 balls with the help of 5 fours. Shoaib made 27 off 19 balls and was brilliantly run out by Imran Nasir with direct throw to the bowling end. Soon two more wickets fell in quick succession and SBAW (Green) were reduced 90 for 4. At this stage Waqas Tariq and Rizwan batted responsibly and added 98 valuable runs for the fifth wicket partnership which turned the match in their favor.
SBAW-Green required 47 runs in the last four overs. Tariq played the dominant role in their victory by scoring 70 runs in 44 balls.
Shahid Amin, founder President of JCL was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, which held soon after the match.
He gave the winning trophy to the captain Usman Ali of SBAW-Green and runners-up trophy to PISJ (ES) captain Imran Nasir. He also thanked Afsar Fahim for providing Sadafco products throughout the tournament, Aijaz Ahmed Khan Lodhi for arranging free medical services from Dr. Iqbal Pasha (Minarat Polyclinic) and appreciated the efforts of the tournament coordinators Hamid Saeed Rana, Ahsan Rafay and other committee members for the successful completion of the event.
Other top performers of the tournament also received awards from him. They were: Man of the Match (final); Imran Nasir (PISJ-ES). Man of the Match (semifinals); Shoaib Ali (Green) 59 not out vs. SBAW (Blues) and Murtaza, (PISJ-ES), 76 runs against IISJ. Batsman with maximum runs in the tournament; Imran Nasir 372 runs.
