JEDDAH, 21 June 2003 — Maj. Gen. Abbaker Adam Abdalla, director of the technical affairs of the Sudanese customs authority, has denied that the new customs passport system — called triptych — allowing transport of vehicles to enter the country has been abolished. The system followed an agreement between the Sudanese customs authority and Al-Qadeseya Company. He added that the system was operative and there were no plans to call it off. He said the customs authority had introduced other alternatives in addition to the customs passport system including presentation by the car’s owner of a bank guarantee letter, an authorized check, or the full amount of customs duties in cash before collecting the car from the seaport. The money will be refunded when the vehicle is taken out of Sudan.
Gen. Abbaker added that there was no objection to other similar companies working in the same field to guarantee taking vehicles out of Sudan in time. He commended the cooperation of Al-Qadeseya Company with the customs authority in activating the new customs passport system and easing the burden of people, especially students and investors traveling to and out of Sudan.
