JEDDAH, 23 June 2003 — The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has signed an agreement with Ivory Coast to contribute $23.8 million in financing improvements to a highway in the African nation.
IDB President Ahmad Muhammad Ali and visiting Ivorian Prime Minister Seydou Aliman Diarra signed the deal in Jeddah.
The facility will be used to carry out work on part of the road, which runs from the north to the south of the country and serves several neighboring African nations, also members of the IDB.
The bank is an arm of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference. It has loaned around $24 billion to member countries since 1976. It gives low-interest loans to Islamic countries to help with development and economic difficulties.
